Bucharest-based Miso Architects chose two of LZF’s winsome suspension lights, Agatha and Gea, for a residential showroom setting in the Romanian capital. The showroom is a studio apartment in the Vernescu Residence, a recently built modern development in the heart of Bucharest. A contemporary and somewhat minimalist space, the apartment is decorated in a palette of muted tones, with bright accent colours introduced through greenery and a turquoise armchair.

The studio is made up of a large living area with a separate kitchen and bathroom. Considering the practicalities of the layout, Miso Architects cleverly divided the open-plan living space into two distinct zones: a living room and a bedroom. The bedroom area was formed using a raised platform, which also acts as a storage facility. A wall of oak lamellas, long thin wood boards, was designed in a manner that allows each board to rotate around its own axis and form a closed wall. The effect ensures a level of privacy while maintaining the studio’s open flow.

The simple and uncluttered bedroom has a soft and quiet air. Suspended from the ceiling, the LZF Gea lamp spreads a warm glow, its light helping to create a sense of calm. Designed by Spanish designer Mariví Calvo, the handmade Gea lamp is a beautifully clean composition with a smart wood veneer finish.

In striking contrast, LZF’s Agatha lamp is manifestly bold and a high point of the Bucharest studio’s living space. Inspired by the celebrated English writer Agatha Christie, the light was “authored” by Luis Eslava, a delightfully idiosyncratic Spanish designer. With its blossoming concentric wood veneer strips, Agatha is an optimistic lamp that boasts plenty of energy and charisma.

Working in concert, the Agatha and Gea pendants add a certain Spanish charm to this Bucharest dwelling, lighting their respective spaces with aplomb. Markedly different in form, they are nonetheless united in their handcrafted elegance and unmistakably good design.
